Chinese New Year Goodies

Hello everyone! Chinese new year is round the corner, and i bet everyone is busy preparing. Because Me too! I'm going to go shopping around for new clothes. My parents are busy cleaning the house and getting the house stock up with food and decorations for the house.
Chinese New year is very important for us Chinese as we would go to relatives house to celebrate for this new year! The Chinese goodies are so delicious that i would try the different food bought. And of course getting the hong bao/red packet from them!

We would start the year with lao hei or 鱼生, by tossing and than eating raw fish. There have been many different variation or ingredients added to the raw fish. Normally families would go to restaurants for reunion dinner and also lao hei. We would say our best wishes for the year when we toss the fish. It is always pretty messy but fun. Go to this site for more yu sheng information!

We would also purchase
年糕 /Glutinous rice cake.It symbols improving oneself higher in each coming year(年年高升). There are also different versions of it in varies countries. It is rather sticky and chewy like those Chinese nonya kuehs sold in the market. It can be cooked with flour and eggs which is rather easy to cook. You can try it yourself : Here
The
rice cake can be shaped into different shapes like the chef in this website, to create a more auspicious dish. The web could also tell you more about the different unique Chinese dishes.

The above are two food items that are normally eaten on special occasion like Chinese new year. They have lots of meaning and is believed by lots of Chinese. Hope you all could enjoy your chinese new year with lots of rewards and enjoy all the different food! But be careful of in digestion and 'heatiness' from the CNY goodies. Take care of your health :D

Candies that may not taste that sweet

Hello again! Today im going to introduce to you guys some unusual candies all around the world! Many people especially children loves sweets, right? I too, have a sweet-tooth for candies too. From m&m to skitters and gobstopper. They are easily available and really yummy too.So today, im going to introduce some candies that may not be as yummy as it looks.

credit: Please dont freak out
Firstly, its the Ear Wax Candy! From its picture and description, it looks really unappetizing and disgusting. It comes with jelly-like candy and a swab to take it out.The candy is nothing special but the ear-like packaging is something to be worth purchasing. It suitable for Halloween or some scary occasions that would definitely scare or gross your friends.

Next,is the Candy With Real Bugs inside. Its transparent maple outer coating, encloses the insects in it.But the appearances is still rather terrifying as we have to watch every bite we made so as to not bite into the insect. It comes in forms of different insects like scorpions or crickets. It may feel strange to try one but i would if there's a chance. Here's an interesting article from BBC about interesting food.

credit: white choco maggots
Lastly,is the White Chocolate Maggots. From the word maggot, i think many people would think that its creepy and would taste pretty bad.But its made not from real maggots. Its just shaped and produced to look like a real one.The fat white worm makes people believe that its the real thing, but i guess it will taste better than the real one.

I guess many people who watch harry potter would have known the famous Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans. Its not really a virtual thing now as people have actually created those beans!! Yucky but true. It comes in many flavors - vomit, liver, ear wax and many more. CLICK HERE for more information.
Hope you all have fun reading my candy- lious post!

FOOD ONLY IN TAIWAN (:

Hello everyone! I'm back again! It's been a while since i last blogged. So for this post i'm going to introduce my favourite TAIWAN goodies! Taiwan is famous for their fashion, beauty products and of course food! I have been to Taiwan last holiday and it's certainly a place i wanted to go again. So here's what i find that's famous in Taiwan.

credit: Taiwanese stinky tofu-deliciously malodorous

The first is 臭豆腐/ stinky tofu.
You all must be wondering why would people eat it if it's smelly? I guess it's the crispy texture and sweet and sour taste of it. It will definitely cause you to come back for more. It is available in most night markets in Taiwan so you can conveniently get yourself some. Challenge yourself to some when you have the chance. Here's an account of someone who tried the dish, do check it out!

Next,is 大餅包小餅/ small bun in big bun
The delicacy sound rather complex but actually its quite simple. Its inner portion is the fried pastry that is rather crispy. It comes in lots of flavour from yam, sweet red bean to peanut and many others. Surprisingly not many Taiwanese actually know of this dish. Maybe because there are simply too many delicious dishes already. Hahaha! Here's another account

Lastly, is 棺材板/ coffin-shaped bread
The name is actually quite misleading as its not as solemn as it seems. Its actually toast complementing with sauces or soup-like liquid in between. With crunchiness from the toast and the sweet tasting sauces,it's certainly one of the must eats in Taiwan!

With so many scrumptious food in Taiwan, its no wonder many people go to there for their food! Do visit Taiwan if you are thinking of trying many exclusive dishes. Because you will not regret (:
